Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) is the lead agency in Los Angeles’ HUD-funded Continuum of Care Program (one of 461 regional and local planning bodies nationally). LAHSA coordinates and manages over $300 million annually in federal, state, county, and city funds for programs providing shelter, housing, and services to people experiencing homelessness. Created in 1993, LAHSA is a joint powers authority of the City and County of Los Angeles, governed by the politically appointed 10-member LAHSA Commission – five members selected by the County Board of Supervisors and five chosen by the Mayor and City Council.

Alongside thousands of volunteers throughout the LA County, LAHSA conducts the Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count each year, as required by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to determine regional funding allocations. LAHSA’s statistics on homelessness in LA can be found here.

SELAH

CLICK FOR MORE

SELAH Neighborhood Homeless Coalition is a 501(c)(3) organization of neighborhood organizers who recognize unhoused individuals as fellow members of our community worthy of the same dignity, respect and representation afforded to any housed person.

We seek to expand that understanding to other members of our community while building relationships with our unhoused neighbors to better understand their unique needs, situations and struggles.

Our goal is to ensure these oft-forgotten individuals have access to as much community support and political recognition as possible. We hope to accomplish this through material aid, connection to existing services and policy advocacy.

There are many homelessness organizations working to end homelessness at the city, state, county level. Our work is on the neighborhood, encampment, and individual level. This allows us to provide detailed, sustained and relationship-driven support to our unhoused neighbors while providing vital firsthand on-the-ground information to representatives of the city, county and larger non-profit organizations.

Project Roomkey

CLICK FOR MORE

Project Roomkey was established in March 2020 as part of the state response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The purpose of Project Roomkey is to provide non-congregate shelter options for people experiencing homelessness, protect human life, and minimize strain on health care system capacity.

Project Roomkey gives people who are experiencing homelessness and are recovering from COVID-19 or have been exposed to COVID-19 a place to recuperate and properly quarantine outside of a hospital. It also provides a safe place for isolation for people who are experiencing homelessness and at high risk for medical complications should they to become infected.

The Project Roomkey and Rehousing Strategy is designed to quickly provide dedicated resources to ensure Project Roomkey units remain online through the continued public health emergency and that homelessness is non-recurring. Project Roomkey units are intended to be temporary, emergency shelter options, while also serving as a pathway to permanent housing.
